As mentioned yesterday, I’m one of 60k people offered an exit from Microsoft.
I wanted to just give a heads up that in the next few weeks I may be talking about that, to the capacity I’m allowed to.
If that’s not something you’re interested in, feel free to mute in the meantime.
@annaecook Please vent if necessary!
Oct 27, 2026, 1:46 PM@annaecook oh man please process it all however works best for you 💪
@annaecook ah, I did not realize you worked there. Just as a visually impaired employee of mine mentioned a recent change in Azure DevOps significantly reduced his readable screen area.
Layoffs are no fun for either the folks that leave or the ones who stay. Very stressful.
@annaecook I’m lost for words. But if you want to chat, I’m happy to exchange signal usernames.
This is such a terrible timeline :-(
can you address the notion of "..allowed to..."?
@oldguycrusty I cannot discuss specifics about the offer or anything that is not public information. I will not share information about peers either
I understand.
@oldguycrusty @annaecook Standard practice in modern employment is "You sign an NDA, agree not to bring any suit against us, and never say anything that might reflect badly on us or you don't get any severance."
You're not free just because they fired you, they also own some portion of your freedom of speech until you die.
@gooba42 @oldguycrusty I can appreciate that this is true to a degree but I don’t think I can emotionally handle being told my freedom of speech is owned by them till I die right now.
@annaecook @oldguycrusty Sorry, I wasn't meaning to point that at you, I should have left you off.
I'm still pretty bitter about the conditions of my layoff 20+ years ago so it's still a bit high energy/triggering when it comes up.
@annaecook Following you for this. Losing your job is so fucking devastating.
@annaecook I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope you and your colleagues are doing okay. I would love to hear about your experience, as soon as you're ready and able.
@annaecook Abandon you just when things turn bad? I don't think so! Wishing you strength and clarity as needed!
@annaecook Well that turbo sucks, I'm sorry Anna.
@annaecook I'm sorry
