Smoke detector: *Chirps just once for low battery*
Me: Nope, no, we're not fucking doing that. *drops everything, fetches batteries and step stool* You're going to shut the fuck up right fucking now!

Thank you for changing the batteries and not just taking them out!
@PetraPhoenix I have a fear of losing my home and belongings and companions to fire, so I make sure fire safety devices are in working order.
I am sorry that you have this fear, but I am glad you keep yourself safe
@hellomiakoda
You're lucky to know which one it was 😅
@manu The shape of our home happens to make that very easy.
@hellomiakoda Good job! I just want them to have a little LED that lights up when the battery is low, so I can tell which one has the issue without spending several minutes standing like a statue waiting to catch the chirp at the exact moment it happens.
@joshsusser One thing you can do now to have the ability to find them is Home Assistant. There are "Works with Home Assistant" smoke detectors if you want to have less fiddling, but plain ol Zigbee smoke detectors if you want cheaper (nut not all of them send "low battery" to HA). Slap together a quick dashboard with the smoke dectors' battery entities, and you'll see what one's chirping. Some even allow snoozing.
@joshsusser Additional things you can do with that - Automate turning off heat generating devices, turning on lights to get out, messaging you when away from home, and plenty of compatible ideas I haven't even thought of yet
@hellomiakoda my landlord will never
@joshsusser You don't need your landlord involved. There are plenty of ways to use Home Assistant in a rental situation, and you can leave your landlord's smoke detector's down till you move out.
