A few months ago I asked my local @greenparty_ie councillor Carolyn Moore if she could see about getting some bike parking outside Tesco in Rathmines.

    Yesterday the council installed this!

I think this is the Green Party equivalent of "She fixed the road!"

Sketch proposal for a build out of the footpath outside Tesco to provide four bike racks. On the left a text box identifies the problem - congested footpath, no bike parking despite obvious demand, drivers using the taxi rang as a filter lane, and fast moving traffic entering the car park. On the right a text box identifies the solution - wider footpath, bike parking, traffic calming, and potential to reduce street clutter.
The side this morning with two small concrete islands either side of a row of four bike racks fixed to the road surface. The islands have bollards to protect the bike racks. I was told that full build out wasn't possible because of drainage issues.

@ccferrie @greenparty_ie Yes, it can be done if you find a councillor who wants to do it, and it's not specific to any one party - I got 600 bike parking spaces added in #Cambridge city centre.

But most people like things the way they are, as witness the fact that most people can't be arsed to vote in local elections.
