Hello all. I do not want to trigger some kind of flame-war but I am just interested in peoples' thoughts. Not that this post will have much reach but I just wondered how many of you out there believe in "Free Will"? I myself do not but seem to be in a stark minority. All my discussions on the subject have been amicable but I'd love to hear more voices.

@toxy I think it's more of a definition thing - I am going to eat some rice in a few minutes because I choose to => free will.

you might respond: but you were always going to do that, based on how all the atoms in your brain were arranged at the moment of making the choice (or something like that), but then I'd say sure, you could predict my choice, but that predictable action, and how all my atoms were arranged, that IS me; that predictable, calculable me still WANTS to eat rice in a few minutes time.

I call that free will 🤷‍♀️

(I'm curious and happy to hear if you have another counter-argument than that tho :) but yeah generally I think this discussion is often mostly a definition thing, like how do you define agency and choice)
