Can we also make software that works well when the connection is there, but poor, please?
Netflix and Steam work great when I’m offline but if I’m on a train and the connection is flaky… my goodness, it’s a joke. I have to disconnect to get anywhere.
(Is this ironic? I have no idea.)
Es genügt nicht, keine Ideen zu haben. Man muss auch unfähig sein, sie umzusetzen.

maybe hot take, but the largest practical issue with “AI” coding is the velocity. Hard to believe something underwent proper review when someone ships 50 kLoC a week, no matter if they used claude or cocaine to get there.
I also wanted to take some Aerochrome style infrared photos of autumn leaves today, but I grabbed the wrong IR-cut-filter… -.- oh well, these are nice too #photography #infrared
I conduct periodic fire tests where I literally just unplug the server and see what I can recover from my onsite and offsite backups.
Literally- I pull the plug. That's not a euphemism, that is literally what I do.
Even if you don't self-host, this sort of backup strategy is what makes sense. Like the photos on your phone? Turn off your phone, put it in a drawer, and get at the photos using a laptop or desktop. If you can't do it, you don't have a backup, and should correct that.
Result: yep, these are cracking. But salt content is lacking… might need some dip.
Recipe: mix 85g old rye #sourdough starter, 100g rye flour (type 1150), 100g wholegrain spelt, 160g water, 8g salt, 25g olive oil, let rest for 22 hours at room temperature, notice that it's way too sticky, add about 100g of spelt and 4g of salt and some caraway seeds, knead well, flatten very thin onto parchment paper, cut into small pieces, bake ~12 minutes at 200°C, eat some while letting cool off.

I have too much #sourdough starter – I feed it weekly, but the bread from one baking usually lasts two to three weeks (partly frozen) at my consumption level. So let's see if I can make rye/spelt wholegrain crackers with caraway seeds from the leftovers.
I already fell into the trap of letting the dough rise for almost a day at rpom temperature while I was procrastinating, so it was very sticky, and I had to mix more flour & salt in, so I have now almost double of what I planned… 😬
another angle on the Schefflera, showing the structure from above. photos of sculptures (including bonsai) always lose something in the translation, because the real 3D form offers you something different from every angle.

I often hear Americans & rich brits justify buying oversized, polluting vehicles by claiming they need them because they live in the "countryside".

Sie haben ein paar Dellen (wer nicht?), aber sonst bin ich zufrieden.
They have a few dents (who doesn't?) but I'm otherwise happy with them.

I'm a grounded rather cynical middle-aged woman (pah to horoscopes, mediums, ghosts etc) but I would never ever not greet a magpie politely and ask how its wife is today.
