yay it's back up :3

this sounds complex but all of this exists as a library in almost every language that’s capable of understanding program structure, ie all of the functional languages. yes even nix, where do you think I started

it’s very easy to do better than PHP

the system I designed works across languages, and I’ve implemented it across languages, and one day I should write it up as a spec and publish an implementation

but there’s really not much to doing better than PHP. you want:
- structural templating
- the ability to drive the templating engine as either a static page compiler or as a server, with a nice API to choose which one a page ends up as
- static output that a reverse proxy can serve as a sensible path, with a fallback to the server for anything that’s not static
- extremely optionally, support for one of the lightweight partial render libraries so that clients with JavaScript get a speedup (and clients without JavaScript just get a regular site, magic!) and no more JavaScript than that

Les utilisateurices de Yunohost, c’est l’heure de mettre à jour le système!

Was zum Kuckuck?

Funfact. Mit #Gopher wäre das nicht passiert. 🤓

#php2shell

#php2shell #log4shell #react4shell

I’ve updated all FreeBSD jails still running some PHP software. I build the pkgs from the ports on the host and then shared the pkgs with all jails.

What an exciting day :D

when you tell me to use a static site generator that can’t do a basic fucking comments section without pulling in a stack of JavaScript, all I hear is fap fap fap fap

when you tell me to use react for anything at all, the noise gets louder

my point is we have the technology

and instead everyone is masturbating

elixir is pretty good for this! I have a system that turns structure-aware elixir templates into server-dynamic or static pages depending on what’s most efficient for what’s on the page

and of course right after I did this, elixir went all-in on slop

Mein @fex_service ist nicht betroffen von der #PHP Sicherheitslücke, weil das alles mit #Perl läuft. 😋

now can we please have a non-slop language that does fucking server templating?

it turns out it’s fucking horrible to do everything as a pile of fucking client-side react, and server-side react is a piece of shit

no static site generators don’t fix this, we need something that does what PHP does except without the PHP
