Anyone tried these apps?

https://getartcraft.com/apps

They are rewriting #Adobe products from scratch using LLMs.

If you are familiar with Adobe products, would you like to give these a try and share your feedback?

They are still alpha so all features may not work right now.

One core idea of the @prav #Cooperative is that the leadeship is elected by members for a fixed term.

So we want to rotate people serving on the prav board.

The responsibility of prav board is to take care of day to day running like raising funds, approve funding requests, delegate specific responsibilities...

See https://coop.prav.app for more specifics.

Are you interested?

At present, we are looking for people from #Kerala only. But we want to expand to more states eventually.

The @prav #Cooperative is looking for people who can help with publishing blog posts regularly.

Would you be able to spend a few hours every month?

Communities hosting #FreeSoftware services is essential to realize independence from big tech proprietary companies like #Meta, #Google, #Microsoft and #Apple.

Unlike earlier days, building #FreeSoftware is not enough, we also need to provide the service to reach everyone.

This would be sustainable only if more people contribute time and money.

GrapheneOS is a security hardened operating system and no bank app wants to run on it.

#gajim #xmpp client 2. 6 has a responsive ui and works well on mobile. I am happy to get more features than #Dino on mobile.

Though gajim still misses voice and video calling compared to Dino.

We provide a replacement to #BigTech spying and dependency for messaging at https://durare.org

It is part of the #federated #XMPP network (think of #mastodon for #messaging), there are more providers if you don't like us.

We need to pay 40 Euros for a domain renewal and payment for server hosting. This service is possible due to donations and grants. We are all volunteers so all the money we receive goes to actual expenses.

Thank you very much.

The era of high quality software has ended, hasn't it?

Everything is a buggy mess now with basic mistakes and terrible UX.

It's either that or deeply embedded surveillance or invasive features breaking the application. Nobody cares to test what happens if the user doesn't allow a permission.

One might think what kind of noobs are shipping this crap but it's not noobs. It's experienced developers being forced to sling slop at an insane pace.

Recently discovered this great #FreeSoftware app.

https://f-droid.org/en/packages/dev.davidv.translator/

It has #Malayalam and support for 61 languages. #Chinese comes with #pinyin pronounciation, which I missed in https://libretranslate.com

Now I can leave https://reverso.net and depend fully on Free Software for #translations.

It can translate pictures and documents too, even live camera support.

Now I won't miss Google Translate when traveling!

我非常兴奋!

Really good thread! Thank you. 🙏

Working in a programming language that never bothered to implement a Set data structure in its standard library does take its toll sometimes.

Getting my 5 years old LED TV repaired.

The repair technician is saying that newer TVs are worse. They last fewer years and are harder to repair. Talking about mini LED TVs.

After opening the TV, it is a frustrating process of getting over all the hurdles the manufacturer placed there to prevent repair.

It's good that there are still people doing this full time. I hope they don't get frustrated and give up. But it's a losing battle against the manufacturers.

I got a dedicated microphone especially for dictation. The improvement in accuracy is quite noticeable. My dictation is no longer affected by traffic noises during rush hours, especially in the evening.

It is called MXL AC-44. It works right out of the box on Debian.

Since the microphone itself has noise cancellation, I think it will be great for conference calls too.

Please suggest a Star Trek episode to watch.

(Discovery and any of its spinoffs don't qualify)

As a maintainer, I like commits that look like this.

Shifted to the Parakeet unified English-only model. It is slightly larger than the previous Parakeet multi-language model, but it seems to have better accuracy and it is a lot smaller than the Cohere 1.4 GB model.

I think I can afford to keep the 600 MB model in RAM all the time (i.e. set Unload Model = Never). This might avoid the problem of missing a few words right after pressing the keyboard shortcut, due to the delay in loading the model into memory.
