In the last two years, Arizona residents have seen rents soar by 30%. This is caused by some actors like Greystar having dominant market positions, and even more using price fixing software (Greystar is associated with the development of yieldstar, one of these solutions). Recently, the Arizona Attorney General began to take action:

Many cases have already been settled as these companies attempt to establish favorable jurisprudence; rather than lose a case and set a business-model-ending precedent, they pay out settlements with money from their extreme rents. Hopefully the ongoing DOJ probe establishes consumer-protecting precedence.
