this is a fine piece but i wanted to push back on a wording choice that was probably not very intentional:

no. they are [as safe as their owners program them to be] MINUS an undisclosed, heavily gamed margin of error that the people selling it will tell any lie they can get away with to make you believe will only go down and eventually to zero. and they're willing to gamble your life on that for a shot at a new monopoly.
