I would like netbsd to get better
it would be amazing if it were a linux alternative! it isn’t for most people right now, but that’d be amazing
I’m going to boost posts from other people who’d also like netbsd to get better
some of them are going to be a bit angry because currently, netbsd isn’t entirely the safe haven they were hoping for

in order for a thing to get better, sometimes you have to critique what’s currently bad about it
sometimes an effective critique will provoke emotions from other people
that’s normal

also, no, I’m not stirring up a hate mob against any of its maintainers either
I don’t know who any of them are unless they come to me, and I respond to the tone I receive
if anyone else jumps into the thread and says something: yes, that’s how a thread works when it’s public
ideally this is why you have an impersonal PR account that doesn’t take “my guy, I used you on my Dreamcast back in 1999, and my SPARCstation, and my VAX a couple times” as a statement somehow directed towards a person instead of an operating system

by which I mean grrrr. grrrrr i hate the operating system i have fond memories of running on my favorite console and uhhh slightly less fond memories of running on a couple of sun and dec workstations. bsd stands for bullshit disc i burned

@zzt it would be pleasant if there were more development of kernels and just kernels; perhaps it would be better if there were more division between the inner and outer mysteries of operating systems

@f4grx @mxchara one exciting thing about netbsd is apparently the drivers are portable! and there’s a lot of other very cool parts of its architecture that make exploring the operating system design space much easier than with linux
it’s a cool operating system
that will not solve any of our social problems

don’t get it twisted. I’m trying to stir up a labor uprising against linus torvalds. netbsd hasn’t stolen millions of dollars worth of our labor and made their leader wealthy off of it.
