    i don't see how i can migrate my blog to zola 0.23
    they literally replaced the shortcode system and syntax, how am i supposed to replace *every* image embed with a completely different syntax
    from {{ f(src="asdf", alt="hello, world") }} to {{<f src="asdf" alt="hello, world" />}}
    this is literally a parsing problem, you have to add angle brackets around double braces (fine), and remove comments *except in strings* (wtf???)
    and they *never released a tool for this*, i have close to a hundred images and videos to update this way

    @hipsterelectron well the last project i saw before leaving uni was "how to write a parser in yacc" (i couldn't get it to recognize token definitions)

    didn't help that the docs were split between a lexer, a parser, and an extended GNU fork, interacting in ways not obvious to an outsider

    @nyanpasu64 i would also question the necessity of updating at all if they're slopped up now but i assume it has a feature you need and i think this is solvable

    @hipsterelectron i don't depend on any features but the dev asked if a Windows file lock bug triggered by nested directory generation was fixed in 0.23, and I can't test without porting my site or creating a cut-down minimal site

    @nyanpasu64 first thing i would do is post all of this thread as its own top-level issue bc i don't think it's clear to the project that they have introduced this and it sounds like it's not clear to other users either. creating that issue and then linking it to the dev who asked you about the repro alerts both other users as well as devs that there is a new problem to solve

    @nyanpasu64 this is 100000% the kind of thing that a professional organization would allocate engineering resources to and to some extent i would argue it's not something you should just donate to them unless they're nice and non-corp and worth the effort to you.

    @nyanpasu64 that's more of an ideological stance and i'm not really trying to argue with you here bc i am also kind of a parsing nerd and i have strong feelings that this is the kind of problem that structured parser generators are inappropriate to use to solve at this time
