Sincere question for programmers working in tech — are you able to do your job without AI?
I’m not asking if you have the ability to, but rather is usage of AI mandated at your job?
I’ve found that basically every job in tech now mandates it and coworkers all view you as insane if you don’t use it.
Yet on Mastodon every programmer I see acts like they not only don’t use AI, but that they’re seemingly able to keep their job and not mandated to use it.
Unrelated, looking for more cool people to follow on here. No criteria other than interesting and post interesting stuff. Suggestions welcome.
People often say Mastodon is confusing because they don’t know what server to join. I’ve found it to be the opposite. My server is almost immaterial. My feed is who I chose to follow just like twitter was before they ruined it with algorithms.
But I always feel like I’m missing something when people talk about what server they’re on. It all is essentially the same once I follow that person. 100% of my Mastodon usage is via Ivory.
Am I missing something?
Whelp. It’s finally out in the open. https://sfstandard.com/2026/05/11/london-breed-michael-bloomberg-job-offer/
@superpixels Being an out-of-work senior-staff level software engineer in the age of AI has been very disheartening. All interviews switched like clockwork in 2026 to being AI focused.
But I got through it. Start Monday. Here's hoping the new job is good.
Discovering new cool accounts to follow is one of Mastodon’s weaknesses. Especially given 99% of people aren’t on here unlike Instagram.
What are some good accounts to follow? Please recommend me cool accounts & people to follow on here.
Photo of Nutmeg from last night. We put on her lion costume hoping it would help the Detroit Lions win. It did not.
I have two extra tickets to The Armed at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco tonight if anyone’s interested.
@ivory Ivory between desktop, iOS, and iPadOS don’t seem to want to stay in sync. I keep checking the settings and all three are claiming they’re in sync. Any tips for fixing this?
Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is the first new single-player (kind of) game in ages that has me interested. Anyone playing?
1. I’m super excited for Alien: Romulus tonight.
2. I got all kinds of re-angry at people (@bea) who think Prometheus was bad. I am a Prometheus defender. It’s one of the most brilliant prequels ever.
3. Excited to argue with you all about Romulus. I’m a huge fan of this director.
I love the Deftones so much. https://youtu.be/c2rqBUlrXqU?si=dcqG0xcupLGAsxcQ
Took apart my PS5 and completely cleaned it out. The power supply area was gunked up. Probably because sprinkles sleeps with her face against it when it’s on…
Works perfectly now.
When I checked my phone this morning all my regular friends and acquaintances had wished me “happy birthday”. My closest friends had all not said a peep about my birthday and instead flooded me with Walz memes before I'd even heard the actual news of him being the VP pick.
I accidentally took a four hour nap today.
Okay. Let’s go. #ffxiv
You guys I have the whole evening to myself and I have analysis paralysis.
Do I watch a movie? Pick up where I left off on the Pacific? Read Silmarillion (close to end). Buy the new college football game that’s getting rave reviews as the first good football game in forever? Play more Elden Ring?
The world is my oyster.
Got him. Shaking. #eldenring
