Spoke too soon. PHP really worms its way into everything, huh?

Every time a big PHP or Citrix CVE drops I'm really glad those things aren't really a part of my life anymore. 😌

Check out this George W Bush #Mabinogi GIF. Remember George W Bush and Mabinogi?

My health insurance is gonna start covering regular colon screenings soon!

So, I'm trying to put NetBSD on my "try-out" laptop and... this might not be possible. Somehow I managed to make a disklabel on the FreeBSD MBR partition and get a bootstrapped encrypted system running there, so I thought I could do the same with NetBSD and... jesus I hate BSD fdisk/disklabel/anything that touches the disk.

I think I'll do something else for a bit...

Reading Das Kapital makes me wanna make a factory game... I could label arbitrary wants labelled A-Z and make some of them intermediate and make a grid with squares that generate a commodity that satisfies a want and other squares that process two commodities and make a third... And you can click on one and click on the other to link them. This is how it starts.

Margaret Hamilton said we needed to start thinking of programming as software engineering. That was hard so instead we just started calling it software engineering and did title inflation but enforced none of the rigor or licensing requirements of actual engineering and now everything is terrible.

Oh well.

I am just an ignorant atheist. I was baptised catholic and my mom's Puerto Rican and my Dad's White. And yet, I get annoyed when I see or hear a take that conflates Arab and Persian geopolitical entities or Sunni and Shia Islam. If you can tell Germans and Russians apart, I feel like you should be able to tell those two apart.

An easy mnemonic is that Sunnis follow the Sunnah which is what Saudi Muslims are always on about.

Well, maybe it's not that easy.

https://factorio.com/blog/post/fff-446 I love that they add support for whatever platform I'm interested in when I'm interested in it. You know the Czechs really make great stuff.

It's a little weird that the Raspberry Pi can run Minecraft but not Factorio, given the relative graphic fidelity, but Factorio's got weird 2.5D stuff going on that I guess would be facilitated by some of modern OpenGL's excesses. This is what we get from straying from God's own OpenGL 1.1.

I saw a post complaining about how search doesn't work anymore, and they actually gave examples... but all of the examples were them typing full-ass questions into Google's box. My friend, if you wanna search like that, use ChatGPT. Web search was never that. It's a content-indexed database query. You gotta use the words you think are gonna be in the answer, not the question.

It just sucks now because they nerfed boolean ops and synonyms/stemming and they now drop "old" pages (with good info).

"We’re introducing our new User Terms of Service (ToS) for mastodon.social, to reflect new features and to ensure that our Community Standards remain clear and transparent."

tl;dr, just assuming it means all our posts are AI now.

Killlll eeevery landlooord!
Buuurn eeevery cooop!

It always hits me weird when someone says they're in a Yuri relationship. It's like if an interracial couple described their marriage as a BBC relationship. Those are porn words. I mean, sure, fine, I guess. w/e. The universe will spend most of its existence as black holes orbiting black holes.

When Pokemon Go came out and was really popular for a while, I signed up but I chose a stupid name that I immediately regretted and they didn't let you change it so I just kinda never got into it... That's a pretty common story for me. Techbros love to make a product where you can't play with your identity and then use the data from it to train military drones to bomb Yemeni weddings or w/e.

To be clear, I broke out the hot air station for this one. I had to put it up to 400... the solder just wasn't melting below that. But it is an el cheapo station!

For a change of pace, I tried replacing the battery RAM chip in my Harvest Moon GBC 2 Cartridge with a FRAM chip leftover from the Saturn job... It didn't work, so I guess I gotta do continuity testing, and I don't feel like it.

I never got far in that game because you had to play as a boy to marry girls or... anyone and keep playing... but it has sentimental value because it was my first Amazon order.

Oh well. #ConsoleRepairThread

I made an #88x31 for my #webzone https://indigoparadox.zone if anyone wants to trade links. 🥺

EDIT: Fixed broken "N".

Starting to use some of the neat window stuff I built into #maug now that I reworked it to not eat all the VRAM on the PSX... This is the SDL port, tho. But now I can have my little #goblin give the tutorial. Also added proper fields that react to the sprayer... but I still need to add a sprite for when the sprayer is on... and smooth out all of the scrolling glitches and fix the field corners and add actual mechanics and and...

But... it's progress on an actual game! Not just engine work! 😌

I was trying to tell my mom Bah'ro is a slur but I can't remember the "woke" term for people who live in books.

The #Myst series was such a good commentary on how a conservative society eats itself, among other things.

You're telling me if I wanna use sprites then texture RAM is divided into PAGES?! And I gotta align my spritesheets?!

*throws all my notes into the air and crawls into bed*

#maug can now read files off of the CD-ROM and (very crudely) blit bitmaps onto the screen on #PlayStation. At a reasonable speed, even! Even when I tested on real hardware! 😌

Now I just gotta figure out transparency and work out some of these glitches... The AI plane isn't moving (but it is trying to turn?) so maybe the lisp interpreter is ballsed up...

But reading the CD and allocating VRAM is not trivially simple on the PSX! So... So far, so good!
