WHY NOT

#duckduckfedi is there a LoRa communicator device like the LiliGo T-Deck that doesn't suffer from "we failed to understand what a keyboard is for syndrome"? Requirements: needs to have audio output and input, wifi, bluetooth, LoRa, battery, a keyboard that preferably isn't some 35-key tiny thing with no shortcut or navigation buttons. Please boost for reach

The fun the Control does is make it canon that The Oldest House has some weird-tech-field going on which makes older computers more reliable for that situation and DAMN is that a good excuse to throw beautiful old computers into your setting.

The HP-85 also could not draw the high-res graphics we see on screen in the game, but ya'know... Basically every game does that.

It was limited to 256×192.
Though maybe they build their own add-in graphics card to drive an external IBM 5151 monitor, which also added high-res graphics modes? Like a Hercules for HP Series-80?

It's weird because there is another model, the HP-86, which is basically an HP-85 without the internal monitor. They could have modeled it after that, then having the external monitor would have made sense.

almost. The HP-86 couldn't drive THAT monitor, only a retrotech nerd like me would point out that small of a nitpick

Compare with the HP-85 on wikipedia and you can tell they copied it pretty exactly, except they whitened it up and added a big clunky IBM-style power switch on the left of the screen. Also added a few bonus knobs and such, including ANOTHER brightness dial, which presumably is for the internal CRT? the one they aren't using?

Control: Resonant continues the weird computer choice of the FBC: HP-85's with a white-phosphor IBM-5151 monitor on top.

(my grandmother had red hair. I unfortunately didn't inherit enough of her red hair genes to have red hair myself, but I did inherit enough to be resistant to painkillers!)

a review I can't leave and can't name (NDA reasons):

today I spent 3 hours at the dentist having a crown put on a molar, and the anesthetic wore off four times mid-procedure. Despite this, your API is the most annoying thing I've had to deal with in the last 24 hours.

Some people have pointed out I missed a fortinet exploit and trend micro leaking some embargo'd linux exploits.

never a dull moment

recommendation for tomorrow:
no one touch ANYTHING

basically everything short of poob is broken

also it's not TODAY (it seems it started up to two days ago) but there's an active plex vulnerability out there (Plex2Shell), so unpatched plex installations are being remotely hacked to host cryptominers, ddos remotes and such. Fun!

so what has broken the internet today?
1. php
2. node.js
3. gitlab
4. 4
5. musl
6. QUIC/HTTP/3
7. Signal
8. Apache Traffic Server
9. Pillow for Python, even!
10. bind
11. LiteLLM
12. XZ Utils

(Java is reported, but supposedly it's just their version of the 4 issue)

anything else I'm missing?

and apparently Railray (a cloud provider?) got hacked and are telling all their customers to rotate their secrets. Apparently things like API keys were stolen

goto considered harmful
longjmp considered very harmful

longjmp? in the year of our gourd 2026, the php bug involves LONGJMP?

actually I have been working towards setting up a dial-in BBS (over real phone lines)

NO PRIME NUMBERS OR PHP NEEDED

solving my infosec problems by rewriting my site to not use TLS/HTTPS and just some perl scripts under cgi-bin

don't tell anyone, but we've updated the number to 5.

this is FAR more prime than the previous number
