wow, look at @bkuhn@floss.social block evading like an abusive piece of shit

UPDATE: the floss.social mods found him to be in violation of the server's no harassment policy and took appropriate action.

anyone wondering what’s bad about FUTO funding netbsd and netbsd not turning down the money is welcome to explore FUTO’s YouTube channel, which platforms right-wing cranks and spreads disinformation, FUTO’s site, which is full of fascist dogwhistles and references to other fascist disinformation networks, and FUTO’s history in general

this is what I mean when I tell you switching to netbsd is a fragile solution

On the current spam wave some of you experience on the Fediverse: I think @stux is right by suspecting it might be one or more 3rd party apps that got hacked or are leaking authentication tokens.

So. Go to your account settings and check the "Authorized Apps" part. Revoke the permissions of apps you don't use anymore. Consider it housekeeping and make it a regular Todo :)

Wrote a simple source browser for CFM on PicoCalc! Now you can easily scroll through the system sources. Both directions, fast, thanks to some careful use of the LCD controller.

That's the actual source of the running system, btw. You could change it, recompile, and reboot, without a bigger computer.

I'm color coding screens by index to make it easier to see the boundaries.

It's also very frustrating to constantly have my opposition to AI be taken as an opposition to abstraction, or to automation, and a desire to do every little thing by hand. But it's the opposite. For a whole bunch of reasons, AI anti-abstracts. It adversarially creates oceans of duplication to process. It creates a situation where the AI user gets to set the terms of some ecosystem with synthetic productivity but then everyone else needs an AI to figure out what's going on in that new ecosystem.

"it's here to stay! you can't get rid of it! stop dreaming of a better world!"

buddy, if i only read books, played games, and listened to music published before this decade, i would never run out of interesting and compelling works of art to feed my mind with. I don't *have* to buy anything you people make.

many people ask "why are our programs like this?" and assume the problem is that they have composed the underlying primitives into the incorrect configuration. no, the problem is that the underlying primitives of the unix paradigm are the wrong ones

hey @homeassistant

what the fuck

I don't trust astral

i don't trust pydantic

they're going to implode with the ai bubble, and python is going to suffer _hard_

"this downright black-and-white refusal of generative AI is childish"

Okay, now replace"AI" with child labor and say that again. Because a lot of the moral arguments against genAI are similarly structured than those against child labor.

@mcc try firefox, the fox you'll want to fire

Librewolf disables offers to save passwords, offers to save credit cards, and offers to save addresses by default. Finally. Fucking finally.

I had other things to do today, I had plans. I didn't want to spend today doing cleanup because my copy of Firefox decided TODAY is the day I switch away from Firefox

"You always have a choice in Firefox, including whether to use features enhanced with AI". LIARS! FUCKING LIARS!! THE "BLOCK AI" SWITCH UNDERNEATH THIS WAS TURNED *OFF*! YOU SILENTLY UPGRADED MY WEB BROWSER WHILE MICROSOFT WAS REBOOTING MY COMPUTER IN THE NIGHT, YOU ADDED A BUNCH OF SECRET AI BULLSHIT YOU DID NOT DISCLOSE TO ME, YOU HAD IT TURNED ON BY DEFAULT, and then you have the fucking GALL to say I had a fucking "choice"

Get outa here with your fucking cutesy fox mascot for the apocalypse

Scary shit!

"And yet, we barely discussed the elephant in the room, and what I came to Brussels for. The cyber aspects of domestic solar panel inverters, heat pumps and home batteries are unregulated since individually they are small fry. Yet, these >100GW contributions to our power grid are now centrally managed from incredibly weakly secured non-European clouds that could fall victim to the ransomware attacks that are happening all the time.'

jesus christ, Linux has had a 100% LLM takeover.

this project is completely cooked.

even after the AI bubble pop, it's not clear how to recover from this level of bullshit from this level of bullshitter.

https://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/1099594/be20382b54a9b4cd/

> Linus Torvalds believes that blaming LLMs for the kernel community's problems is wrong, when the problem is LLM users who do not understand how to use them or how the kernel works. A properly trained LLM is a useful tool, but it takes a lot of time to reach that point.
> Torvalds and others repeatedly said low-quality contributions from new developers should receive low priority, and that the community should stop trying to make contribution easy. Many developers said, repeatedly, that trying to mentor those developers is almost always a waste of time; they do not listen.
> There is some concern about companies maintaining private kernels with LLM help, but there does not seem to be much to be done about it.
> Kernel developers should not be required to use LLMs to work in the community, but those who do need to have enough resources available to generate acceptable results.
The requirement to add Assisted-by tags to patches created with LLMs will be removed, but maintainers still want to know about how a patch was created.

so how's it going already?

> The development community is struggling to keep up with the flood of security patches, and will continue to for some time. Some of the most urgent fixes may bypass maintainers and go straight to Torvalds. Maintainers were cautioned against telling their employers about vulnerabilities before public disclosure happens.

Really, I'm not out to suck as much ass as Microsoft. That will just be a completely unintentional side effect.

How much slop is in Linux now? Ehh we decided not to tell you

@0xabad1dea Move fast and break things was taking too long, the new paradigm is shoot first and flee the scene

This is my #Heincke #WIP at about 28 hours in. For those who do not know, this is a research vessel, usually docked in #Bremerhaven at the #AWI (Alfred-Wegener-Institut)

I have the pleasure of painting this cool ship for someone who works on it. Everything else is pretty much done, except the actual ship, which I think should take me 8 hours or so.
