    Isn't it actually the other way around? Those who use the service generate high costs for the operators.
    (At least when we're talking about free access models. Anyone who's foolish enough to pay money for an LLM is probably beyond the reach of this line of reasoning anyway.)

    So free users actively burn capital rather than offset it.

    Stable or rising user numbers suggest a high level of utility, which is why new investments are continually being made in these companies. Only a lack of interest indicates that the product is not wanted.
