Aug 8, 2026, 8:29 PM@susankayequinn I think that the other part of the great lie, is that there is a threshold or cliff. Everything will be just fine until it isn’t. The weather stories, the agricultural failures, the thousands dying today, should be giving us that context that we are on the curve, and that curve is steep, exponential. Today is bad, tomorrow will be a little worse. The curve isn’t smooth. Nothing happened today, propping up the great lie

@jadp right and each bad thing can be dismissed as a "one off" and not part of the steep curve bending even steeper than expected

@drahardja if there's one things humans actually excel at, it's rising above our "innate" limits, if we choose
that's kinda the whole point of having that prefrontal cortex

@susankayequinn @jadp Agreed! It takes work, though. Most people don’t put in that effort, especially when there’s a widespread propaganda campaign to keep most of us from thinking too hard about it.

@drahardja and yet people are putting it together, that something is deeply wrong (with the climate, with our world), despite the propaganda, despite not being dedicated to the cause (like people like myself). It's incorrect that most people aren't concerned about the climate -- they ARE -- and a ton of people have the appropriate level of concern and are acting on it. And that number grows every day.
NOT paying attention is very mal-adaptive in the Anthropocene
