    @lizzard @vicfroh Plus batteries. Makes for a stronger, more stable grid. It's a win-win. People who have the resources to do more than just scrape by have a better chance of bettering their lives.

    @vicfroh been slowly working my way through Caliban and the Witch and recently passed a section talking about how in the 14th or so century the wealthy and nobles were complaining that the poors dressed like them and were forgetting their obligations because the poors were too wealthy, so they started passing laws to make life harder for the working class to remind them of their position. Giving them solar power would probably cause them to be layabouts and forget their obligations to the fuel industry.

    @vicfroh if we lived in a rational society the people living in those houses would own them. Installing panels would help them, especially as they age. That’s not where I live, the people who can’t pay electric bills are struggling because of rent here. Installing panels gives landlords the ability to increase rent. Now the utilities are included so instead of sitting inside in the dark you sit outside all the time.

    @vicfroh What about batteries? Lithium ion batteries cost a lot, and the fires do not go out so easily.

    While solar panels help in cases, they might provide too much power during the day, which from what I heard might blow out transformers in the electrical grid. And of course, if there's no light at night, then the power drops significantly at night, and isn't enough to power everything.
