Many in the UK will find a striking similarity with the conduct of the UK police.... although (in addition to XR protests) here we might want to contrast peaceful protestors supporting Palestine Action, with Farmers disrupting the road in London
Aug 4, 2026, 5:39 AM@ChrisMayLA6 farmers have extra rights and are usually not attacked in the press for their protests. While people blocking traffic to remind the public to not destroy the planet are very evil and must feel the full strength of the law.
So some people are more equal than others, again.

The concerns they protest about tend to be more about their short term viability, which is always somewhat precarious, but this doesn't mean they don't also have longer term concerns. This feels like there might be an opportunity here.
I do understand that they tend to be reactionary, but if they go bust next year from an expensive mandate, that will tend to override their concern about things that are a decade off. Any collaboration would need to ensure that they get adequate help making adjustments.

At our local "farmer's" market, we regularly talk with them and where they see issues with cost and climate. And they are all very open to try new things. However, they often lack the funding. However, they produce vegetables, milk and meat products. So farmers producing wheat, corn, soy etc. are not present including farmers with huge indoor livestock.
