Ok so things have taken an interesting turn. There are two hogs having a bit of a contretemps (more likely a one-sided courtship) and one just backed into my feet, prompting me to lift my feet up. There’s much chuffing going on under the table next to me now. It’s dark and getting cold but I daren’t get up and disturb them.

Meanwhile a third hog has snuck into the feeding station. I must go inside. It’s really dark now but the chuffing continues.

Ah the potential suitor (?) has given up and is having a drink. All is peaceful again.

Spoke too soon. Hog number three came out of the feeding station and our spurned lover bulldozed them, so I’m guessing both males. Courtship attempts have resumed. The female remains unimpressed (it was she who sniffed my toes).

I was getting cold so I’ve left them all to it. I forgot to charge the trail cam so I’ll not know how the love triangle played out.

@helenclayton I try to put food out between 9.30 and 10pm, but I forgot 🤦🏻
Dashed out with kibble around 10.20pm and the first hog arrived within 5 minutes 😂🦔#hedgehogs

@Sarah111well I reckon they’re lurking in the shrubbery waiting. On the footage from last week one turned up before my husband put the food out, probably muttering how one can’t get the staff.

@helenclayton A couple of times this week I've found a hog waiting in position, when I've gone out with the kibble 😄 Sadly me sprinkling food scares them, and they wait until I've finished, then run away 🤷🏻 It isnt long before they return though.

@Sarah111well yes I’ve tried that before, scattering kibble, and they scuttle into the shrubbery until they think the coast is clear.

@helenclayton I used to have one that would just sit there until I'd gone. Much braver 😁
