    @falk_ the tutorial points out the weird parts but it's def not weirder than the other 645654 idiosyncrasies of other languages ;)

    I wrote a perl tk app or two back in the day.

    I sort of supported a perl tk app that was the front end for a huge test suite for an enterprise level cad/cam/cae suite

    Gui programming is weird and kind of hurts my sysadmin brain

    @gizmomathboy looks reasonably platform-native with the latest version, check out the screenshots in the tutorial.

    I love GUI programming, the evented model is so intuitive and the best part: you can SEE it.

    Also it's one of THE most versatile "pattern" you can use even in ... shell scripts or program a red light traffic system.
