  @joepie91 @miki @mattly @x0 that is true, but there are a few chinese and chinese-adjacent companies in the space too by now, at least one of them specifically calls out "you can't use our services to bypass GFW"

  @Rairii @miki @x0 @mattly I mean, of course there are, china has a tech industry just like everyone else, I just find it pretty suspicious when someone chooses to call out specifically china or even "non-western-aligned country" when that's clearly not where the industry originates from

  @joepie91 @mattly @x0 Sorry, forgot about Israel. It's also where a lot of other shady tech-related stuff happens, a lot of surveillance / cyber-offense companies are from there. The largest offender in this space, and the one who seems to disregard the rules most brazenly, is nevertheless Chinese. They're called IpIdea, and their previous iteration was US sanctioned, which is as close as you get to putting a foreign corporation in prison I guess. They do have enablers in the EU and US, but those are mainly Church ladies and such, selling Chinese pirate TV boxes to their communities, which are often economically disadvantaged, so arresting them is... politically difficult.
