@Natasha_Jay The gender binary shows a lot of similarities to conspiracy theories. Both reduce a complex situation down to a conflict between a virtuous but besieged Us and a malignant but vaguely defined Them.

It's not just dumbed-down. It's an opportunity for people to feel superior. They're willing to overlook a lot of facts to hold on to that feeling.
