Gaza... Where Life and Death Walk the Same Street 🕊️💔

There are places in the world where beginnings and endings remain distinct—where birth is separated from funerals, joy from grief, life from death.

But Gaza has long since transcended these boundaries.

In Gaza, the living emerge from death, and the dead vanish from among the living. 🌫️

How many people have been pulled alive from the ruins of homes where every other member of their family perished? They walk away breathing, yet carrying an entire cemetery within their hearts. And how many people smiled, spoke, and made plans with us in the morning, only to become names on a list of the dead before sunset? Here, seeing someone alive today is never a promise that they will still be here tomorrow.

War changes the meaning of everything. 🏚️

A home is no longer merely a place of shelter—it is a place where birth and death may arrive together. A street is no longer just a road to walk; it becomes a silent witness to contradictions too immense for the human mind to fully comprehend.

You may see a funeral moving toward the cemetery, mourners carrying someone to their final resting place. Just a few steps away, on that very same street, a groom walks toward the beginning of his new life. 💍⚰️

Only a handful of meters separate these two processions, yet together they ask the same question:

How does life continue when death never leaves our side?

Perhaps the strength of the human spirit is not found in defeating death, but in choosing to keep living despite knowing it walks beside us. 🌱

A Survivor’s Diary: The Day I Saw My Future Turn Into a Shelter 🕊️
Dear reader,

I want to tell you about a road I walked one day with my little brother on our way to the hospital.

It was not a long road, but it carried a weight that felt impossible to bear. The sun above us was burning, its heat falling heavily on our tired faces. Yet I barely felt it. The heat of the grief inside my heart was stronger than the heat of the blazing sun. My sorrow had become a fire of its own, a fire that made the world around me feel distant. 💔☀️

As we walked, my eyes met Al-Aqsa University.

I stopped.

For a moment, I was not standing in front of walls and buildings. I was standing in front of a memory. A dream. A future I once imagined.

This was the place where thousands of students and young people once walked with books in their hands and hope in their hearts. A place filled with voices, questions, ambitions, and the quiet promise of tomorrow.

I used to imagine myself entering those gates after finishing high school. I imagined carrying my books, sitting in classrooms, and building the future I dreamed of.

But that day, I saw something different.

The university I once saw as a gateway to my future had become a shelter for displaced families. The halls of learning had become places of survival. The walls that once protected dreams now carried the marks of pain and loss. 🏚️💔

I stood there silently, feeling as if I was mourning a part of myself.

Because war does not only destroy buildings. It destroys the invisible things too: the plans written in notebooks, the dreams whispered by students, the futures that were waiting patiently to begin.

A school is not just a building. A university is not just walls. They are where children become who they want to be. They are where dreams receive their first steps.

And when those places are broken, a piece of an entire generation is wounded. 📚🕯️

Destinies Written Beneath the Rubbery: When Hope is Born from the Womb of Tragedy
In Gaza, life does not move according to the familiar laws of time and place ⏳🌍. Here, opposites in a way that stuns minds and bleeds hearts 💔. Calamities do not come singly; rather, they carry within their depths the seeds of delayed joys, and joys themselves can transform in the blink of an eye into sweeping tragedies 🌪️. It is a geographical patch where human destinies are forged from a strange blend of patience, loss, and miracle ✨.
Chapter One: A Raid That Erases the Trace
In Gaza, the distance between a dream and nothingness is the sound of a single airstrike 💥. A child stepped out toward his home, from which he had been forced to displace, remembering some of his necessities, and went in search of food and simple clothes 🎒. His footsteps met their fate amid a violent raid and the terrifying gunfire of tanks mowing down everything in their path 🚜🔥.
The trace was lost for two full consecutive years 📅. A father asked every stone, every ruin, every displaced person, and every passerby about his son, but found no answer to heal his burning soul 🤲.
Sorrow filled his heart, and he turned the page on his son forever after failing to reach him. He dug a grave for his chest, and wrote upon its unseen marker: "I once had a son" 🥀.
Chapter Two: Declared Fascism and a Hidden Window of Hope
In a world where images and posts race across social media platforms 📱, an Israeli female soldier published a picture boasting of humiliating a bound Palestinian captive—a living, shameless embodiment of the entrenched Nazi fascism in the behavior of this army 🪖🚫. The goal of publishing the photo was to humiliate the Palestinian people, showcase brute force, and crush what remained of their families' spirits.
Yet the destinies woven in secret had a different plan 🔮.
The afflicted family, torn by the anxiety of absence and with longing devouring their hearts, gathered around a phone screen, staring at the circulating image 👁️‍🗨️. Amidst the ugliness and cruelty of the scene, the hearts of the father and mother skipped a beat 💓. Their eyes fell upon familiar features, absent details, and a face whose return they had awaited despite their despair. It was him... their son, lost for over two years 🕊️, whose news had been cut off and whose traces vanished in the abyss of genocide, turning his fate into a painful enigma.
Before the magnitude of the shock, the picture transformed from a tool of human humiliation into a document of life 📄✍️. The news became a certainty: the son is alive, imprisoned in occupation jails, suffering under torture, but he is alive ⛓️✊.
Epilogue: A Testimony to Survival
Thus are destinies written in Gaza 📝. You lose a loved one in a moment you thought would last forever, and you find a lost soul you thought had departed for good, snatched from the jaws of a photograph meant for gloating and insult 📸🥀.

While the world speaks of a “ceasefire,” reports continue to emerge of further horrific and devastating acts against civilians in Gaza. Military operations continue to expand, and control over new areas is shifting, with the so-called “Yellow Line” reportedly absorbing more than 71% of the territory — making many question whether this is truly a ceasefire or merely an illusion. 💔

As more than two million people endure siege, hunger, and displacement, and as families mourn their loved ones only to see more lives taken hour after hour, Benjamin Netanyahu is welcomed like a respected world leader, despite the arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court. ⚖️

What message does this scene send to us and to the world? 🌍 What remains of international justice if a person wanted by the International Criminal Court receives official honors and welcomes, while our suffering continues and acts described by many as a profound stain on humanity persist on the ground?

If ceasefire commitments are applied selectively, how can we believe that justice is not being used as a cover while grave violations continue?

First and foremost, thanks to God, and then to every kind-hearted person who believed in our story and chose to extend a helping hand, I was able to fulfill a simple wish for my mother on her birthday. I gifted her this necklace, a gift that carries love, gratitude, and the kindness of so many beautiful souls.

I cannot describe the look in her eyes when she saw it, or the smile that appeared on her face after months of exhaustion and sadness. It was a genuine smile, as if she had regained a small part of herself that life’s hardships had taken away. For a few precious hours, she was able to forget the psychological pain and heavy burdens she has carried for so long.

The most beautiful thing about this gift was not the necklace itself, but the feeling it brought to her heart: that she is not alone, that there are people around the world who still see our humanity and believe that bringing happiness to a tired mother’s heart is something worth doing.

Imagine a group of human beings being trapped in a confined place, unable to escape or return to a normal life, while violence is inflicted upon them day after day for two and a half years.

Imagine death becoming part of their daily lives. Imagine losing loved ones before their eyes, children waking to fear instead of safety, homes becoming memories, schools becoming postponed dreams, and hospitals becoming places where there are simply not enough resources to save everyone.

Then add hunger.

Imagine a mother searching for a piece of food to quiet her children’s hunger, but finding none. Imagine water becoming a wish, medicine becoming a luxury, and bread becoming something counted piece by piece. Imagine living every day without knowing whether what you have today will last until tomorrow.

And the cruelest part of all?

For two and a half years, these people keep raising their voices.

They say: We are suffering.
We are hungry.
Our children are afraid.
Our sick need medicine.
Please, stop this suffering.
Please, help us.

And the world hears them.

It sees their photographs.
It reads their words.
It watches their tears.
It knows they are trapped, hungry, frightened, and that they did not choose this life.

And yet… the days pass.

Then the months.

Then one year… then two… and another year draws closer to its end.

And one question remains suspended in the air:

What happens to a human being when violence and hunger do not only destroy their body, but slowly consume their heart as they cry out for help and find no one reaching back?

There is a kind of pain that wounds cannot describe, a kind of hunger that numbers cannot measure, and a kind of loss that words can never repair.

And there is something even more devastating than suffering alone:

Suffering in full view of the world, knowing the world sees your pain, and then watching the world become accustomed to your cries.

After two and a half years, we are not asking to be seen as numbers, nor for our suffering to become another passing headline.

We only ask the world to remember that behind every number is a human being who once had a home, a face they loved, a child with dreams, a mother waiting for their return, and a life they deserved to live in safety.

Today, I took my mother to her monthly medical check-up, an appointment we have always tried to keep. But I couldn’t afford the cost because debt continues to surround us from every side. Today, what we owe has reached $225, even before covering the food and basic necessities I mentioned before.

The doctor told us that the cyst on my mother’s ovary has shrunk by 1 cm, but it is still there, so she needs to restart her treatment and continue taking her medication. 💔 This means more costs we simply cannot afford while debt continues to weigh heavily on us.

💔 I don't know what hurts more... Is it poverty? Is it living under siege? Or is it being forced to ask for help every single day?

Perhaps the cruelest part is being a little girl carrying burdens that even adults struggle to bear.

🎒 While other children think about school and play, I wake up wondering how I can find food for my family. While others dream about their future, I spend my days trying to support my mother and father as they suffer, doing everything I can to help my family survive one more day.

🆘 Every day, I write another plea. I open my heart and share a piece of our pain, hoping my words reach someone who can ease this burden. I know many people see my posts. I know our story reaches others. Yet the days keep passing, and we are still waiting.

😔 The hardest part isn't asking for help. The hardest part is having to ask again and again while my family's needs cannot wait. Hunger doesn't wait. Medicine doesn't wait. Survival doesn't wait.

That morning looked like so many mornings of war… a heavy sky, exhausted faces, and children carrying stories far bigger than their age. 💔

I returned to an UNRWA summer camp, searching for a small piece of the life we lost among the ruins. I was looking for the school that once held our laughter, our dreams, and my two dear friends — Yaqeen and Qamar. 🕊️

They were more than friends. They were my childhood. We sat together in class, shared our little secrets, laughed at simple things, and wrote dreams in our notebooks that we believed would grow with us. 📚✨

I entered the camp carrying a heart full of longing. I searched between the seats, waiting to hear their laughter, waiting to see their smiles again…

But they were not there.

Only two empty chairs remained. Two silent witnesses to a childhood interrupted, to dreams that were never given the chance to bloom. 💔

Outside the camp stood a lonely tent among the destruction. I looked at it and felt the weight of history — a reminder of the stories of the Palestinian Nakba, of families who lost their homes and carried their memories in their hearts. We never imagined that another generation would know this same pain. 🏚️🍉

War does not only destroy buildings. It takes away the small details that make life beautiful: school mornings, friends’ laughter, notebooks filled with dreams, and the people who were supposed to walk beside us into the future.

I carry the memory of Yaqeen and Qamar in my heart — their voices, their smiles, and the dreams they never had the chance to achieve. 🕊️

Please don't tell us that Gaza is "still bleeding." We have never stopped bleeding. Our blood still runs through the streets, and the tents of displaced families are still burning around us, while the world keeps turning its face away.

The truth too many refuse to face is that Gaza has reached its final breath—the thin line between life and death. An entire people are being slaughtered before the eyes of the world, while their suffering fades into just another forgotten headline.

If you want to look away, close your eyes. Turn your face. But know this: you will never escape the silent reproach in the eyes of innocent people being killed while they wait for humanity to remember what humanity means.
