And to wrap this up, the fans are clearly better at this than the makers are. Just buy a few fans to help make this device and start selling then buddy. Its what's left of video games.

Most gamers only play cell phone, or sports, or Minecraft, or Roblox, or Fortnite and only a small minority play games as they originally were. The industry has crashed whether the corpos behave or not

Physical was more for the needs of the time and now kind of doesn't make sense. Go look on eBay if you disagree. What I'd really like are mini consoles with a good GPU that know how to host the best emulators and ROM's, while acknowledging the war against piracy has been lost for decades. That's the needs of the times now

I love that people can play their old physical. I hate that Sony restricted their disc drive to prevent this. However, its kind of overrated. My favorite consoles are these mini consoles with lots of ROM's on them. Physical is costly and takes up space, whereas ROM's are free.

Its digital accounts you should hate. I own my PS5 - its my right to jailbreak it, but PSN could retaliate.

Over the PS3+, online game downloads became a thing and most people want a couple of the classics rather than a broad variety of yesteryear anyways. This made compatibility fall by the wayside.

Add in the fact that the modern era has been going on for 20 years and the pre modern era for like, 10 years prior and there's a declining amount of physical even available, let alone cheaply available.

->

EVERYONE has a PS2 and at the time, PS1/2 were fresh and all over the place. So this decision matched the needs of the time.

The PS3 required a lot of tech wizardry for the modern era, none of which translated well to the future. PS4+ is easier to emulate. That's why the PS3 games are harder to access than anything before or after. So PS4 wasn't backwards compatible, but the PS5 had to be because it was just a souped up PS4 with no games.

->

I feel like bringing this up. It'll be several posts of rambling but if you want it gone, bug OP.

So when the PS3 was new, it could play any Sony game up to this point, but everyone was horrified at the $500 pricetag and Sony was living off of the PS2's sales. So they finally decided something ambitious: get rid of the PS1 chip and the PS2 chip, each worth $100. Now the PS3 was only $300

This is how the Retro Gaiden website looks to logged-in users.

It uses default Mastodon software with a heavy amount of custom CSS. The result is an appearance that's unlike anything else on the Fediverse.

Has anyone played the Gothic remake yet?

I haven't had the chance to play it or the original, but I do have almost all of Piranha Bytes' games in my Steam library and I'm trying to decide whether I should try to tweak/mod the original Gothic or just play the remake. I've heard people say the remake is amazing and I've also heard you need quite a few mods to make the original work correctly. :odysee_thinking:
