    Weirdly, I'm kind of enjoying working at 9600 and chose to just do my editing over the serial link rather than SSHing to the server and doing it there. 9600 is snappier than I remember it being the last time I had to do any serious work over it.

    @sen 9600bps really was a huuuuge step up from 2400bps in the BBS days. Yeah, 14.4k was fast, but also not *that* much faster than 9600.

    @thedoh I think because I was on a 2400bps modem for so long, that's still what I associate with slower serial rates. I went from 2400bps to 28.8kbps back in the day, which sure was a huge improvement!

    @sen Assuming the machine on the far end responds with zero additional latency to each symbol, the minimum achievable latency with 9600 baud should be around 0.2ms, which is _damn_ fast in human terms.

    For stuff where you're tying, rather than bulk transfers, that actually beats most webapps.

    @sen nice :)

    I've got a local terminal that doesn't reliably work any faster than 9600... I find some fullscreen applications aren't very efficient with their escapes and redraws (weechat in particular is painful to use), but plenty of others are fine

    @oddline yeah, efficiency with redraws is why I wanted to test this app at 9600 ahead of time, to find all the places I redraw multiple times and fix them :)
