    If the seatpost does not twist freely after loosening the clamp, it may need lubrication, or you may need to remove corrosion from the seatpost and inside of the frame.

    If you have a non-round (e.g., aero) seatpost, then move it up and down a couple of cm instead of twisting. The effect is the same.

    A torque wrench can be helpful for getting the right clamp torque when you're done.
