making sure our visitors get the true discman experience (tiny plastic bit in the latch broke so it plays but you have to hold it closed with a rubberband)
we're always finding lovely little textual gifts in the typewriters, but this one from @mdwyer was especially sweet
Friends: I'm looking into doing a Kickstarter campaign for a series of short, technical, books on a well-known open source software library. I know some of you have a lot of experience in this area and related ones! I would really appreciate it if someone could have a quick chat with me about their experience and provide some advice. Gracias.

because we're making a fresh Mathosaurus disk right now... what was your favorite Apple II - era math edutainment game?
We received a Kaypro II and all associated disks, plus some additional software. Most of it is identifiable, but one rubberbanded stack of floppies is obliquely labeled "Multi Function Radio Diagnostics mBasic" - anyone have a reference for that program?
Those who used both: why do we remember WordStar and not Perfect Writer?
I'm finally catching up on Ask Hank Anything, and this question comes up:
"What is a floppy disk?"
I'm thinking fondly of my friends at the Media Archaeology Lab @mediaarchaeologylab , the SDF's Interim Computer Museum @icm , and the Connections Museum @connections
I'm surprised at how quickly knowledge can pass away and I'm valuing what these organizations are doing for us today.

But also, gawd, I feel old.
look what the Switcheristic collective made as part of their @mediaarchaeologylab residency: pop-up books on pop-up ads! delightful and perfect.
Dear internet, I will be on the radio & streaming this Friday at 11am PT / 12pm MT / 2pm ET!
As part of my residency with @mediaarchaeologylab I'll be taking over KVCU 1190 for an hour, playing the weirdest & wonderfulest computer music I can find from the 80s and 90s! https://1190.radio

tiny photodump from cleaning the @mediaarchaeologylab today: 1) Zork is cybernetics! 2) Zork is found poetry! read this on the next Open Mic night! 3) fish lips for an old web cam! and 4) "WE SELL CAPABILITIES" from 1978
This is a project for @mediaarchaeologylab consisting of a Webster model 2501 intercom system made in 1946. The remotes are just a speaker, that serves as a microphone if you close a PTT switch. The main system has a rectifier tube, a cooked ripple capacitor, and some amp tubes. I've figured out how to rewire the remotes so they match and hopefully work, and blown and picked massive wads of fluff out of them. One remote needs a new backplate fabricated.
as the instructional pamphlet says - "Your new Golf Ball Locator uses an advanced new technology and is programmed to detect the elements in all golf balls. Just like a magnetic compass which swings of its own accord to the North Pole, the direction finding antenna of your Locator will swing of its own accord in the driection of a golf ball whether hidden or not, as soon as your shoulders line up with the ball. The Locator does not generate or transmit any harmful signals. Your Locator only "tunes in" to signals generated by golf balls."
the Gopher is a dowsing rod, basically - there is nothing inside it, it's just a plastic handle with a telescoping antenna attached to a swivelly bit. grift-tacular! but then the people associated with it went on to make fake drug - and - bomb detection devices... less great.
