I'm in Europe for the moment and in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France, kids can't see R rated movies in theaters even if parents think they can (that is, Europe's 16 age limit rating equivalent)
The Netherlands Reddit was full of people being like "why would you DESTROY your tender child's MIND"
@Oaktag That does sound familiar, from my French exchange student in high school! (We were trying to figure out whether we could get into Air Force One because HE was 18, and he was flabbergasted that we could with a parent.
Kids and movies are so variable, however. I imagine many R-rated movies would have bored me to sleep as a child (although I was thinking of movies that are R for sex, which might not get the rating in Europe!)

The movie we wanted to see was Backrooms, and we finally saw it here in America. It was rated R for language, creepiness, and blood... All of which child already knows about 😁

@Oaktag Presumably the child didn’t know about the Backrooms previously, however! Ratings systems really are inadequate ;p
