All of this nonsense about getting kids off social media is really just a cover for not legislating the social media companies to make the spaces safe for everyone.

They of course, don't want that as it would affect profits.

Explain again how profits are more important to a society than safe spaces?

Safe spaces exist. We're in one of them right now.

At the moment, X and TikTok and whatnot have no power over any of us except the power we individually choose to give them. Power that we individually can revoke at any time.

So if these people are so damn concerned about the platforms they're using, why aren't they seeking alternatives? Why aren't they moving themselves and their kids to safe spaces like this one on their own? I did. You did. What's their excuse?

@argv_minus_one @WTL While safe spaces do exist and this is indeed one of them, I would like to strive for a world where spending time online, for anyone, is a last resort

Where there is so much to do and see, safely, inclusive and acessible, not online that spaces like this are not needed

This is what governments should be building for kids and everyone else.

To build that world requires Star Trek transporters.

There is no feasible way with current technology to connect society's outliers (computer nerds, autistics, LGBTs, the disabled, etc) other than global telecommunications (i.e. the Internet).

In the bad old days, all of those peoples lived in miserable isolation and died alone. Going back to that would be cruel beyond words.
