This morning i woke up and asked Alexa what time it was. As it responded with exactly what I wanted, I realized exactly what is frustrating about OpenAI and Anthropic and all their investors. We could be building the future, right now. Siri, Alexa, Google Actions, all demonstrated a very achievable model of computing. One where language models were used to identify the intent of the user, and would then fulfill that intent.
All that was required with this approach was to envision a new type of computing, one built on narratives, without screens, but still designed by writers and poets and built by engineers.
Investors decided no, they did not want to build the future, instead they wanted to lock in the present by stealing the worlds knowledge and selling it back via metered tokens. All they had to do was to give the workers building the future a seat at the table. Instead, they decided to "disrupt" the whole ecosystem of building software products.
