I continue to refuse to use a zipper foot to insert a zipper. Here I am using the HP2 foot for my Janome 6700p. It's working really well! #sewing

A zipper being sewn into a shirt. The foot on the sewing machine has no zipper notches and is just a fancy straight stitch foot.

@effika Do you have the special plate too? Do you think the set up is worth the money versus just using my regular walking foot? I'm going to be starting in on a queen sized quilt so a helluva lot of piecing coming up.

@Plantwizard I have the HP plate to go with it. I mostly use the HP/HP2 feet & plate for garment sewing, since it takes about half the feed dogs (upper & lower) out the equation, and that makes it easier to do curves. If your quilt is curved piecing, it will likely help. If your quilt is the usual straight seams, it won't make much of a difference.

For the quilting itself, I prefer the full-sized Acufeed Flex zig-zag foot or the stitch-in-the-ditch foot. A normal walking foot would work too.

@effika Thank you! You just saved me a chunk of money. The quilt is all straight seams. I too use my Acufeed foot for piecing. In fact I've taken to using it for garment sewing too, unless I want to ease something, so I don't have to pin much.
