    Wasn't there like, a third Dem candidate in Maine whose platform was "I don't have nazi tattoos and I am not Janet Mills?"

    This is like when the first two quarterbacks get injured, so the person with the conspicuously clean jersey gets to line up.

    @Magess @mekkaokereke I beleive she was on as a write in candidate. But if I recall she has a great background and should be the type of person the left pushes towards. Unfortunately not Fight Agency endorsed so nobody ever heard of her

    The Nazi tattoo thing was so long ago they had plenty of time to pivot on that day and get a candidate who didn't have that problem, how does the democratic party just keep shooting itself in the foot constantly

    @gbargoud The Politico story does not smell right. Raise your hand if you are at all surprised that they waited to further the allegations.

    The Dems do not know how to play this game, and it's stunning how incompetent they are.

    Andrea Laflamme. She was a write-in candidate. Or is – the website is still up. She seems pretty good, and I really don't see her having any skeletons in the closet.

    Also I'm not clear how Maine's ranked-choice voting system plays into all this. Like if Platner refuses to drop out and manages to come up with some evidence that cast doubt on the accusations could voters still write in Laflamme, Costello, and/or Mills and make Platner their vote of last resort?

    @mekkaokereke

    David Costello was the third option in the primary...

    "Like Platner, Costello supports universal health care — specifically Medicare for all... universal childcare, help first-time homebuyers and renters, and increase the national minimum wage.

    He wants to ensure the solvency of Social Security by lifting the cap on earnings subject to the tax, which is currently set at about $185,000. He supports a wealth tax targeting millionaires and billionaires..."

    @mastodonmigration

    Long ago politicians didn’t necessarily have to be captivating speakers. We need to realise that we’ve become used to the idea of politicians entertaining us, or giving us brief doses of hope that eventually fade as we realise that their words were empty of policies to actually achieve their stated goals.

    Policy. Good, solid, workable policy is what matters. The rest is bells & whistles.

    @mekkaokereke reminds me of the wacky GOP candidate for Colorado governor who refuses to answer the question "as an adult, have you ever killed anyone?".
    He somehow managed to beat out the guy who said yes he would include an openly antisemitic colleague in his cabinet, and the woman who was seemingly the only adult in the race who is taking things seriously.
