    @peterbrown @RealJournalism That plus the panels are mounted not far off the vertical, so they catch more of the low-standing sun in winter. (We have a few vertically mounted panels on the side of our house, and they don‘t do amazingly in summer. Peak production for them is February, March and October.)

    Besides the air up there is thinner and cleaner, so radiation is a lot more intense (your skin would tell you). And the valleys are often covered by fog, clouds etc., primarily in winter when the energie is most needed. Some there are plenty of reasons and there are (or were) plenty of projects, unfortunatley sabotaged by rightwing or mislead nature (landscape) protecting folks.
