Sadly. I don't think that it is a coincidence that WALL•E (and to some extent, UP) was one of the last works that Pixar largely completed before being fully acquired by Disney. There is something about the House that the Mouse Built where it seems like every property they assimilate eventually becomes too... commercial...
And less sincere...
Toy Story 5 is a great example of this. Saw it a few weeks back, and it certainly was charming and polished. And it will make Disney a ton of money...
But comparing it to WALL•E is like comparing a Sunday Comic to a Michelangelo. One is quckly-served and arguably well-done. But you've honestly seen variations of it before.
The other is a an irreplaceable work of art that has no successor because, well... how could it?
