@zwol @ajn142 @johntimaeus Catching up on the thread I see you're using box fans, I see someone else pointing out quite rightly that box fans are more a "Blow air around person to cool them down and it doesn't matter very much which direction" sort of fan rather than a "Blow a lot of air in a particular direction as intake/exhaust" sort of fan, in that the fan is round and the frame is square and a lot of air gets sucked in through the corners of the blow side.

The rich-man's solution is a whole lotta money on a whole-house fan, the raccoon solution is duct tape

@zwol @ajn142 @johntimaeus every fan's different, the way to go is to get a tissue and flop it against the blow side of the fan and observe which parts are sucking rather than blowing and tape over those parts, go coarse at first like an octagon and then finer until you end up with a big blowy circle. If you can manage it, see whether moving it back a metre or two from the window helps. A helper downstairs watching some incense and giving feedback is ideal, or phones and a video call if no helper awake

A bit of cardboard and gaff tape could make a quick and dirty adapter that you could slap a cheap duct fan onto. I'm guessing you'll lose a little performance to turbulence, but not bad.
