I recently turned 50 and, to celebrate, my wife told me I wasn't heaing things normally anymore.
I went to the ear people who agreed with her.
I'm getting hearing aids before my mother and before my father in law, both of whom hear much worse than I do, because current science suggests that untreated hearing loss contributes to cognitive decline and dementia. No thank you!

@psneeze oh god yeah. It's a lot of money but it makes more sense than wearing headphones + hearing aids at the same time.
@detachedspork Plus you can be listening to one thing while the others listen to something else. A neighbour of mine is a chauffeur and uses them to secretly listen to the sat nav. His passengers must think he knows every inch of the country.

Wearing hearing aids also protects you from further sensorineural hearing loss which is currently irreversible

If you’re noticing hearing loss now then a hearing aid a couple of years ago would have been a good idea. A hearing aid today is your next best solution.

@Anke I used to work in a nursing home and I'm very aware of the rule that if you're going ot need dentures or similar, you want to get them as young as is reasonable, because you can't teach someone with cognitive declinde how to use them properly. I assumed same would be true for hearing aids!
@detachedspork rather than complaining that people mumble these days and weather forecasters need better training in articulation and becoming irritated when others say the telly is on too loud and ......?
A) I usually forget mine.
B) They don't help my understanding wifie. She had Bell's Palsy some time ago and still can't always clearly enunciate.
