@LeslieBurns Did anyone tell doctors about the bat?? I mean, that sounds like the FIRST thing they should suspect.
@LeslieBurns When we were little kids, my stepsister got bitten by a bat overnight that had flown down the chimney in her room. She was fine, but a rather freaked out and needed rabies shots.
I would have made a LOT more vampire jokes if she wasn't traumatized by the whole thing.
@LeslieBurns I’ve always been fascinated by them, did a project on them in grade 4, so knew that they wouldn’t fly into my hair. I was once outdoors with a friend and his telescope and bats were around, some whizzing between our legs. It was amazing watching them. I did have a childhood fear of dragonflies because older kids told me they would sew people’s lips together. One day, I realized I never saw anyone with sewn lips, then became fascinated by them. :) @croyle
@croyle Fortunate she got the shots. You never know, so best to be safe. I know the shots aren’t pleasant, but dying of rabies is worse. @LeslieBurns
@CStamp @LeslieBurns She's been fine for the 50 years since then, so things worked out.
@LeslieBurns He died because his parents didn’t immediately take him to an ER as a precaution. Once symptoms show, a person is toast. I hope this is seen by enough people to remind them of this. Don’t touch bats and if a bat touches you, hightail it to a doctor.
@LeslieBurns if you know you've had proximity to a bat, you should always get rabies treatments. A lot of bats that bite do so with very tiny mouths and you might not feel it even awake, much less sleeping.
