"Being able to peek behind the curtain and see the machinery is big part why i like FLOSS in general, too. But in the end for me it's all about making robust software, moving slow and fixing things."

Other fun facts: "I love videogames, mostly FPS and RPGs. I used to be very good at QuakeLive back in the day (top 50 world-wide in FFA, top 10 in Finland).
My favorite games are TES3: Morrowind, anything Quake, EVE Online and X4 Foundations. But I play a lot of different stuff."

Federico has contributed to a bunch of modules in GNOME - gnome-libs, gnome-panel, GTK, Midnight Commander, gnome-canvas, Evolution, Nautilus. Currently he maintains librsvg.

produce software infrastructure for "everyone". In his own words, "It is heartwarming to see this infra get used in countries like mine (Mexico), without having to ask permission or pay megacorps to use their products. And now that we are setting up the infrastructure like Flathub, this should open similar doors to independent app developers."

    Meet Sam Hewitt (they/them (preferred) he/him (acceptable)) 🏳️‍🌈, 💛🤍💜🖤

They have been contributing to the design of @gnome for many years, they have left their mark on the user interface, experience, icons, and such of many GNOME modules and websites. They joined in 2013 although they have lost track of when they started being more directly involved with GNOME, as they were floating around other projects. 😅

They find it important to contribute to GNOME and FLOSS. The fact these communities and projects are independent and driven by the people involved drew them to FLOSS, and GNOME. They believe that we, the passionate nerds who make up the community, make the platforms, apps, and software we use better because we want it to be better for ourselves and our peers.

They also think FLOSS communities like GNOME, KDE and many others are a vital, moral core in tech space (even more so today). They found them in their formative years and the passion and views of the people in the community they believe did them good and instilled an ethical framework that they have carried ever since, it's important to keep that going and lead by example.

They are an enthusiastic player of community-made Classic DOOM maps, that scene shares a scrappy ethos similar to FLOSS spaces that they appreciate, plus it's fun!

They work on Akademy and other community, social, and collaborative events/projects with KDE (like this one!).

They contribute to KDE & FOSS because "FLOSS at large has been a part of my life since I was a broke teenager learning how to organise communities. Digital sovereignty and programs that work across platforms without a subscription is crucial to grassroots movements, especially now. KDE in particular is important to me because the community is full of smart, passionate, and kind people who want to make the world a better place."

Pride for many is best celebrated with other queer folks, including the many queer people within our large and diverse communities.

We also recognize it can be hard to reach out and find other queer people for a lot of people, so to that end KDE and GNOME invite the queer contributors, users, and connoisseurs of FOSS to a joint matrix room to discuss and celebrate FLOSS,

and the milestones and achievements reached made by queer people in our community, with other queer members of the community. We welcome everyone of all backgrounds, identities and interests relating to FLOSS - we hope to see lots of faces in there soon!

    @gnome

Pride in fact is designed to make non queer people not be bigots. Its not a closed room where lgbt+ people gather to say 'yay we're queer.'

    That's called a nightclub.

Pride is a march through town, it's shows, its festivals, its statements of support, its clothing, its crosswalks, its a giant pride flag at the baseball stadium.

Seneca, Selma, Stonewall. Its about rights.

One of the Toronto Blue Jays Pride events included a giant pride flag with the team logo of support sewn in.

Alright I'm just gonna say it and take my lashings.

I care far less about the sexual identity of the person writing the code, than I do about the quality of their work, and the integrity of the project.

Gnome contributors are constantly getting into political spats with other projects while gnome continues to lag behind other DEs in usability.

I made the decision to stop using gnome a year ago, and now I make the decision to unfollow the account.
