Pride for many is best celebrated with other queer folks, including the many queer people within our large and diverse communities.
We also recognize it can be hard to reach out and find other queer people for a lot of people, so to that end KDE and GNOME invite the queer contributors, users, and connoisseurs of FOSS to a joint matrix room to discuss and celebrate FLOSS,
Meet Kieryn Darkwater (they/them)!
They work on Akademy and other community, social, and collaborative events/projects with KDE (like this one!).
New feature: #LOWESS (Locally Weighted Scatterplot Smoothing) is now available in #LabPlot [dev]. :boost_love:
Benefits:
👉 Smooths noisy data while preserving local trends.
👉 Non-parametric: no need to assume a specific model.
👉 Adjustable span parameter for flexibility in smoothing.

Turing was an example of a brilliant mind who helped build an entire scientific and mathematical field - and a warning about how our institutions can abuse and fail the queer community, despite all the progress made in the ensuing decades since Turings death.

Nearly 6 decades later, after much public outcry and campaigning, the British Government issues an official apology then pardon for Turing

, followed by the coining of the "Alan Turing law", a law to blanket-pardon all those convicting of homosexuality in the UK.
Despite his loyalty and heroic acts for his country, Turing was prosecuted by the British government for being homosexual, and given an ultimatum - go to prison for years, and thus barred from research, or accept chemical castration in an attempt to "cure" him of his homosexuality. 2 agonizing years later, Turing commited suicide via cyanide posioning, leaving behind a lot of unfinished research.
While working at Bletchly Park at the height of World War II, Turing lead Hut 8, the section of the Britains codebreaking devision against the Nazis, Turing and his teams work gave the Allied powers the edge to defeat the Nazis and their allies in multiple crucial battles - shortening WW2 by many years, saving millions of lives and preventing the takeover of the world by facist forces.
Turing is considered to be the father of theoretical computer science. Best known for the Turing Machine

the mathmatical model to simulate all possible computer algorithms, Turing made many other contributions to the area of theoretial computer since during the 1930s untiil his death in 1954.
As Pride Month🏳️🌈 draws to its conclusion, KDE and @gnome would like to pay tribute to the LGBTQA+ people that have contributed and continue to contribute to making our lives better through their work in the field of digital technology.
We start with one of the greatest computer scientists of all time...
