Given the party in power now realises they need the pro-EU base - are they really going to refuse a debate in parliament on this?

I do hope the petition goes through though, will be interesting to hear about the proceedings.
100,000 signatures doesn't force the government to do anything. They might debate it. They might also ignore it...
@samueljohnson @mikegalsworthy they have to respond when the petition reaches 10,000 signatures, and have already done so. (No surprise that they've said we're not rejoining)
They're not forced to do anything at 100,000
@Cyclist @mikegalsworthy In fact, they're obliged to consider holding a parliamentary debate, and presumably justify any decisions taken either way to the electorate

UK govt isn't in control of whether or not it will rejoin the EU, regardless of how many people sign a petition. It may apply but every member state must approve.
