Binder jetted steel with bronze infiltration is no more: the last source has discontinued the technology. All service bureaus that offered this material have taken it down, which tends to confirm my (and their) understanding that no one is continuing it.
20 years we dreamed together. It could do what other binder jetting processes couldn't and can't, and I built my art practice around it. Well, the market has spoken.
If you own a piece in this material, now you have a historical artifact.

@bathsheba oh no! I like the few pieces I printed back when shapeways offered it, so I'll have to take care of them.

@bathsheba Same thing happened with ceramic several years ago. Really sad, it was one of the few obviously food-safe options. A number of people on Shapeways made their living off of it.

@isonno Yeah, ceramics processes have launched and failed many times, 4 that I knew personally. They founder on the rock of no one will pay premium prices for commodity-grade china. If a process could do smooth thin porcelain or automated multicolor glazing then it migh have a chance, but tea animals just aren't a tech market.
Sintered glass is another serial startup killer.

@bathsheba Wow, if I was comfortably retired, I'd be tempted. I'm sure getting them running again is a project(!). Not to mention needing a kiln to fire the results...
Thanks for posting the article - I guess this explains why ceramic 3D printing services dried up around 2016 or so.
