Mendacious - adj. Lying, untruthful.

I just had to look this word up, and this was the definition given. What would be really helpful in dictionaries is if they tried to explain how this word is different from the one given as the definition. Is it a connotation difference? Why do we have both "mendacious" and "lying"?

Maybe there is such a dictionary and I've just not yet found it.

I was complaining in a survey to a group I belong to, about how awkward and uncomfortable many of their conversation groups are. It suddenly dawned on me what was meant when various people have complimented my ability to hold space: this thing I do regularly, gathering strangers (including people of wildly differing worldviews), and facilitating a pleasant conversation, that's enjoyable enough that they come back month after month, is not something everyone can do. Or when I ran my roundtable, and facilitated meaningful conversations to help people through the sticky points in their businesses. Oh. Not everyone can do that.

Years. It's taken years for me to actually grasp this, since starting to get those compliments. 🤦‍♀️ Because sometimes I am dim.

Please tell me I'm not the only one.

It's an abysmal piece of writing, from all angles - whether you care about trans people, or shop/office workers, or simply society at large. We don't need to create the culture where people are being policed for not performing gender well enough to satisfy any passerby. That way lies the rise of random violence, totalitarianism, and dystopia. Let's not go there.

I have a close friend who's a teaching assistant at a primary school. Her current class has abominable behaviour.

Out here in EntreprenuerLand, I've recently seen a few half-day/whole-day workshop offers cross my desk for £500-£1000 each (half price for the early birds).

I told her, "Maybe tell the kids that if they were adults, they could easily be spending £500 or £1,000 to sit in a classroom for a day, so they shouldn't take it for granted." Plus the opportunity cost.

I'm so glad I've put the effort into getting rid of Microsoft.

I've long used the US Department of Agriculture's FoodData Central ( https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/ ) to look up nutrition values of foods.

(For example, I was just wondering what the water content of various fruits is, and found:
Bananas 75%
Oranges 87%
Strawberries 91%
It's always wild to me how much water there is in various food, and it's also wild to me that oranges aren't at the top of that list.)

Given events of the past few years, though, I realise I should find another go-to source for this. Have you any suggestions?

So my systems recently updated to rsync 3.4.3, and as soon as that happened my backup system - which does incremental backups using multiple --compare-dest= arguments - started to fail on anything but a full backup.

Revert to 3.4.1 and it works.

So I go look at the source in GitHub to see what might have changed, because there doesn't seem to be anything relevant in the changelog.

Since 3.4.1, 36 commits by "tridge and claude"

Oh for fuck's sakes.
