Just contributed my first drawing-tablet driver! 🎉 It is for this giant XpPen Artist Pro 27 (gen2) I received (sponsored in exchange of a review on my channel). Got up early, went #bouldering, made progress, left some skin on the wall 😬
Sadly on the way back my ancient car started to have some troubles. So next week, instead of bouldering it will be an expensive trip to the mechanic. And then looking for an (electric) vehicle to replace it ASAP. I was hoping it would be holding out until I can get my hands on a Raval or ID.Polo, but now I'm worried it won't.

You've got a smart watch? Shrug. I had one almost 30 years ago. Let me introduce you to the onHandPC, also called Ruputer in Japan. As the name suggests, it's a wristband computer with a 16-bit 3.6 MHz CPU and 2 MB memory. It has a serial and IR interface. The cool thing is that it comes with a software development kit and you can write software in C for it. I didn't really understand C at the time. My level of function is half what it was before.
The hospital said they would connect me with “resources” to assist with activities of daily living.
There’s a 1.5 year wait list.
MAiD was offered in under a month.
I don’t want to die.
I don’t want to allow the government to euthanize me.
But this is eugenics I’m always talking about.
I need assistance to survive. Help with cooking & cleaning.
The supports don’t exist unless you have a ton of money.
When you try and push your body to do it yourself, you get worse.
If you end up in hospital, they suggest assisted dying.
Am I “free” to say no? Of course.
Does it feel that way when nothing else is being offered?
Not at all.
I’m being denied the support to live while “offered” death.
That’s coercion.
It’s eugenics.
The system has decided I’m not worth saving.
I’m not alone in this.
Disabled people urgently need allies and support in this fight.
And I need some home care.

When someone redesigns, replaces or rewrites a technology that's been around forever, there are lots of reasons why people might not be enthusiastic. Some are less obvious than others.
There's plain inertia, of course: "The new way of doing things isn't the way I'm used to."
There's more active frustration: "I already learned how to do this once, why are you making me learn it all over again?"
And capability mismatch: "Arrgh, this specific thing I used to do a lot is difficult to do in the new system."
But perhaps less obvious, there's an erosion of trust. When a thing's _never_ been replaced, you learn it with reasonable expectation that the knowledge will serve you well all your life. But after it's been replaced _once_ by enthusiastic rewriters, you don't have that expectation any more. Who knows, in five years the next batch of enthusiasts might rewrite it again! So it doesn't feel like learning the new thing will pay back on the same time scale.

I do not understand .desktop files. The last time I used desktop Linux was so long ago I wasn't even using Linux I was using Solaris. Then I went headless only for Linux for awhile, and when I came back we were all expected to understand what a .desktop file is. But I do not. I do not understand what I am supposed to do with one. I do not understand how to create one. I tried creating one and it did not work. Can .desktop files use relative relative paths for Exec, Icon, and working dir? Why not
