Ukraine is obviously the defender, and Russia can end the war any time it wants by returning the illegally occupied regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Crimea.

But when Ukraine strikes against Crimean power plants and transformer stations, is it committing war crimes? Russia was accused of war crimes when it did it to Ukraine. Is there a dual-use exception when a region is a staging area for attacks against your territory? If there is, that sounds like something Israel would claim as a legal defense for at least some of their actions in Gaza.

Hearing her say “fediverso” (we speak Italian with each other) was… an indescribable feeling. Pure joy and pride.

Watched Obsession. This is the most terrifying film I have ever seen.

It's gory, but not as gory as The Furious; That's not the point. It is deeply psychological and bathes in anxiety, guilt and tension ten times more than in bodily fluids.

- brilliant writing
- absolutely outstanding acting
- visual design, sound design, cinematography, top notch

Some things would be over the top in isolation, but in context they're exactly right. This movie is very intense.

Cowardice, selfishness, the nature of love, actions and consequences, responsibility, boundaries, social dynamics ... apart from my body shaking with tension, my head was spinning the entire time with the moral dilemmas and the frustration with the situations.

This was an amazing film. I'm glad I saw it and I'm glad I saw it in the cinema. I will not be seeing it again for a looong time.

The last 3 countries are build with Russian gauge 1520mm, incompatible with 1435mm standard gauge.

The fact that they hired Swedish artists to voice the three main acts shows that Will Ferrell truly understands Eurovision. 😁

Fell into the rabbithole of how many different scripts were used in the Ottoman Empire to write Turkish, and then how many have been used and are still used for other Turkic languages.

It's a lot.

When someone redesigns, replaces or rewrites a technology that's been around forever, there are lots of reasons why people might not be enthusiastic. Some are less obvious than others.

There's plain inertia, of course: "The new way of doing things isn't the way I'm used to."

There's more active frustration: "I already learned how to do this once, why are you making me learn it all over again?"

And capability mismatch: "Arrgh, this specific thing I used to do a lot is difficult to do in the new system."

But perhaps less obvious, there's an erosion of trust. When a thing's _never_ been replaced, you learn it with reasonable expectation that the knowledge will serve you well all your life. But after it's been replaced _once_ by enthusiastic rewriters, you don't have that expectation any more. Who knows, in five years the next batch of enthusiasts might rewrite it again! So it doesn't feel like learning the new thing will pay back on the same time scale.

Right wing populism exploits lazy thinking.

You think you hate people when you really hate systems.

You think you hate politics and "wokeness" when you really hate elite capture.

You think you hate socialism (workplace democracy), anarchy (freedom), and communism (needs-oriented society), when you really hate capitalism (profit above all else).

At the edge of every correct visceral impression, there are paths that lead to liberation. The job of the demagogue is to lead you away from them.
