Not all heroes wear capes!

[edit] Apologies but I'm not sure this is true anymore. I've checked a few random accounts and they're also down a lot so I must be misreading the data.

I double-checked this on a couple of Xitter stat sites and it's true. Average views of the main AfD account dropped 90% and average engagement dropped by 60%. This is commercial social media for you: bots, damn bots and Russian bots.

@StompyRobot also, between the tomatoes, the peppers and the lime juice, salsa is totally a fruit salad

Fun story: When I was traveling home I wore my "Watch Herzog" t-shirt for travel day. It's got a giant picture of Werner's face on it.

This fucked up every single facial recognition program both the Mexican and US passport control areas to the point that agents for both countries had to pull me aside and verify my identity the old fashioned way.

So t-shirts with big faces on them don't work well with AI Facial recognition systems. Figured that would be interesting information around here.

"[Zaslav] set about unsuccessfully reducing the company’s $43 billion in debt through rounds of layoffs and canceling film projects. His most high-profile cancellations were an unfinished Batgirl movie and shelving Coyote Vs. Acme, the Looney Tunes movie currently on track to outgross every single Warner Bros. release this year."

LOL, brutal.

Hihi. I am hearing that there was an anti-migration rally in Vilnius. A reporter wanted to speak with the participants wearing balaclavas but it turned out they can't speak Lithuanian. Just Russian.

My level of being surprised: 0/10.

There’s many hilariously awful things about Google wasting half a page of search results on their asinine LLM thing, but perhaps the best one is that it takes every page of the SCP Foundation wiki completely seriously and reports it as stone cold fact.

The current CEO of Identity Digital (formerly Donuts Inc) named Akram Atallah, used to be the president of ICANN's global domain division, the folx that “own” and “run” the internet.

Under his leadership, ICANN introduced the new generic Top Level Domain program, or new gTLD, giving the creation of a new domain ending (.shop, .brand, .gmbh) a price tag of 200k USD.

Interestingly enough, the one business that jumped on this newly and artificially created market of top level domains, was Donuts Inc., whom Akram Atallah then became CEO of. Today, they control ~37.1% of all new top level domains, as they created hundreds of shell companies to bypass limitations.

I have a list of all shell companies, public records proving they all tie back to him and Donuts Inc., and he's proudly bragging about having done this on LinkedIn so it's not really a conspiracy but known corruption.

RE: https://mastodon.me.uk/@PoliceStateUK/116319833143697646

Counter-point: a police state needs food. Does that mean we shouldn't produce food?

"facilitate" is too squishy a word. We shouldn't install technology that "brings about" a police state.

All this self-host techie discourse sounds, to me, a bit like a self-sufficiency dystopia. If we were discussing how bad public transportation is, and someone replied "just transport yourself", most of us would say "that's not it". But when we discuss wanting to get out of large American tech or of nazi-sympathyzing companies, the solution can't be "just host your services yourself". Having to do everything yourself is not my idea of a functioning society.

A subset (I want to believe a small minority) of people in the current AI industry seem to be part of some kind of wacky AI death cult, driven by a bizarre belief in a mission to create uncontrollable agents of a technological apocalypse.

And then there are the rest of us, who retain the capacity to understand that all this is just computers and software, whether you dress it up as “AI” or not.

My generative AI has gone rogue. The conversation prompt terminal is gone and now there's just a crude ASCII rendition of a series of cellars. I have a blue potion and 4 pieces of gold. A letter Q is advancing on me menacingly

If you have designed a computer program in such a way that there are no reliable mechanisms to prevent it from taking unwanted actions, the program is not “going rogue”, it is simply unsafe and poorly designed.

2026: oh hey there 2024! What's new with you?

2024: not much, just finishing this scathing meme about Donald Trump

2026: (nodding) about all the murders?

2024: about the wait what's that now?

2026: you know, the murders. the ones he keeps ordering. ohhh right you don't know about that yet.

2024: Jesus Christ! is that how bad it's gotten?? he actually murdered someone??

2026: oh ha ha ha no, no

2024: thank go-

2026: he's actually done it lots of times now.

2024: what the FUCK

2026: yeah it's pretty commonplace actually. first he started by murdering a mom named Renee, then a doctor named Alex.

2024: so... two people? He actually caused the death of two American citizens?

2026: oh GOD no.

2024: whew I thought surely I was mishearing -

2026: it's up to like, oh, twenty or thirty murders now. more or less a daily occurrence. could be way more.

2024: Jesus FUCK

2026: kind of tough to keep track actually. it just keeps happening! plus he banned the free press so it's difficult to get accurate numbers anymore.

2024: PLEASE tell me you're doing something about this!!

2026: oh yeah! no, for sure! we're doing stuff.

2024: oh thank God. how many have you kill-

2026: yeah for instance we made up this neat name for them - "iceholes".

2024: excuse me??

2026: yeah we call them "iceholes" now. you know, when they murder another person. "ICEHOLE!" we scream at them when they do it.

2024: ...and that works?

2026: oh goodness me, no. in fact they seem to like it.

2024: so you made up a cute nickname for the murderers who are murdering you?? that doesn't seem like an appropriate escalation of consequences.

2026: also we made it very naughty to wear masks when they do it. when they try to do a murder on one of us. they're not supposed to wear ski masks when they do that.

2024: oh so at least you can identify them and bring the murderer to justice.

2026: ha ha no, they just ignore that part and wear ski masks anyway.

2024: isn't that like, highly illegal?

2026: very much so.

2024: hey remind me how the fuck we got here as a nation again??

2026: ah, well you see, back in 2024, a lot of us were worried that voting for Harris would embroil us on the wrong side of a genocide in the middle east.

2024: oh... right. I remember that.

2026: so instead we're embroiled on the wrong side of TWO genocides in the middle east.

2024: plus the daily murders thing.

2026: (nodding) plus the daily murders thing.

2024: (sigh) ...

2026: ...

2024: want to see this meme I just made? it's about how Trump is orange and dumb.

2026: ha ha yes he is.

I'm cackling at this story. "Senile Pedophile Talks to Empty Room". Instant victory. We should have done this immediately following Jan 6. Why the fuck did us take so long?

My other half has just run a bath, so the heat pump has kicked in and started re-filling the hot water tank. The car is charging at the same time, and most of it is being covered by the sun. We’re pulling only 700w from the grid.

Renewables are amazing.

STOP SAVING DAYLIGHT

* CLOCKS WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE CHANGED TWICE A YEAR

* YEARS OF 'SAVING' yet NO NET GAIN OF DAYLIGHT

* Sunset keeps getting earlier by a few minutes per day, which is sad but we can adjust to it, but then BAM we are all supposed to change the clocks so that it's suddenly A FULL HOUR EARLIER and it's PITCH DARK AFTER WORK what the hell.

"Hello I would like my saved daylight back please"

They have played us for absolute fools.
