In the end ended up arriving an hour later than the original first connection, with an emergency replacement bus arriving within 15 mins of original departure time. A huge win on paper, the user experience however...

The travel time from arrival at the station was 2:45 compared to a 36 min (33km) car trip. The hourly frequency from the train that DID run further added an extra half hour delay, and the lack of proper passenger information made it quite stressful. Could be worse, could be better.
