@MissConstrue and two days before Holocaust Memorial Day, marking the day Auschwitz was liberated and commemorating the deaths of all those who died in the Holocaust.

    Nice.

@oatmeal I saw those in pics on BBC I think where they showed the masses of people. The crowds were huge! Huge! Meanwhile Cybernazi gave his speech to about 4000 people.

@MissConstrue @oatmeal i dont wanna be too pesimistic but a lot of people on these protests are still voting for the neoliberal partys who are normalizing right wing politics. We had those protests last year when a secret meeting about mass deportation got leaked and had multiple instances of Rascist behaviour against palestinians and pro palestine activists on these protests. These protests are more feel good perfomative protest then actuall antifascist protests.

@oatmeal @wpeckham I think those signs were highlighted by the producers *because* they were in English. There were lots of signs in German.
I was in Berlin when the wall came down, my sister and I drove from K-town to be there. This sister was fluent in German, but I am not, and a lot of the signage was in English, especially if the message is aimed at the West. Unlike the American school system, most Europeans learn multiple languages, and English has become the default for dealing with Westerners.
Make no mistake, the Europeans blame America for all the shit America has done, including making Elon untouchable. There is no glamour around the Stars and Stripes like the veil covering the eyes of most Americans.

I remember reading that the laws are fairly strict, but surely the activists can't be punished for showing what Elon did? (I say surely, like we live in a rational world.)

    @MissConstrue Musk: *dog whistles *

Society: *has argument over whether sounding of dog whistle is correlated to the agitation of canines*

Musk: *builds network of drones to simultaneously sound bull horn volume dog whistles over entire country*

Society: “why are all of our furry friends so agitated? Surely we cannot tell!”

@MissConstrue we’ve had “stochastic terrorism”, now meet “stochastic fascism”.

I didn’t have “death by 4chan reject” on my apocalypse bingo card, I should have. It just adds insult to injury.

@FayeDrake Agreed. I didn't have "which country can I safely send my transdaughter to emigrate to?" on my list either. Nor did I expect that to be as difficult as it's turned out to be.
It's infuriating to me, as I've watched the American right wing seek and find vulnerable targets they can use to gin up outrage and donations, how well it's continued to work.
It would be so nice if all those "Christians" would actually read the book they profess to adore.

@ner3y My German is abysmal, but most Germans took pity on me and spoke English. When my sister lived there, and her son went to German school, they were teaching multiple languages and kids could choose one other, but English was mandatory. (This was easily 30 years ago, and things may have changed.)

My experiences traveling around Europe lead me to believe that most Europeans leave school multilingual.

@MissConstrue @ner3y That is still the case, English is still mandatory. If you want to get your qualification to go to university you also need to learn a second foreign language, in most cases French, Spanish or even Latin.

@sebachan @MissConstrue That was meant to be more of a humorous lurid statement that AfD supporters certainly don't know English. You couldn't read that very well from my sentence. Sorry. :)

@sebachan @ner3y One sister did French, one did German, I did Latin. So, while my pronunciation of everything is suspect, I can almost always read, for a given value, most languages evolved from the Indo-European tree. But I struggle trying to speak most languages, and I’ve found that usually people take pity because they can see I’m trying, but hopeless. 🤦‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️.
I’ve been told I speak Dutch with a German accent, and I don’t know how. I speak Spanish with a TexMex accent, so I’m good in the southwest, but Cubans and Puerto Ricans just look confused. I don’t even try French because it makes French people cry when I do. (Como tally voo, y’all!)

@MissConstrue if we do not like this we need to ditch #X, ditch #twitter, dump our #swasticars, stop using #genAI and above all support development of Starlink alternatives like #IRIS2, while discussing the importance of these steps with people we meet and while praising, fostering and funding any initiatives that are built on honesty, compassion and inclusive dialogue. Not looking away, not giving in.

The German government is currently distracted attacking peace protestors, anti-genocide activists and issuing arrest warrant for British surgeons who worked on Gaza to bother with this.

@MissConstrue I have to ask why we are surprised by this, given how captured our government is by big business interests, including big tech. We have known for ages what kind of person EM is-- a fame farming sycophants hellbent on becoming a comic book supervillain. He thrives on this kind of attention. The best thing we can do is boycott him (from X to Tesla and paypal) and gray rock his outrage farm. #BoycottBigTech

@wittytrixter Agree with all of this, but also have we considered guillotines? I mean, I know it's old school...but they did say they wanted to make America great again. I think a few ex-billionaires would go a long way towards making that a reality.

@MissConstrue I an here for the guillotines and they are terrified of us, so I say let's have at it. Also, I wanna come up with the worlds most embarrassing nickname for this person, and have people refer to them that way. Something that makes their pitiful nature readily apparent, but with symbolism. Azaelia Bro or castor bean- both of which are poisonous plants known for causing diareah. You like either of them?

@MissConstrue Outrage is futile. Action is needed to bring him to account. If it isn't, we face something akin to a civil or wider war between the forces of good and the forces of the wealth extremists.

@MW1CFN I think if things continue on this trajectory, something akin to the French Revolution is inevitable. Hungry people are angry people. Minimum wage workers don't make enough to survive in any american state. Housing is out of reach, transportation is out of reach, and food is becoming out of reach. There are 30 year olds living at home because even with a "good" job, they can't afford to live on their own, mostly because of the 300k it cost them to get a bit a paper.

If we don't see guillotines, or the 21st century equivalent, I will be amazed. There is a reason so many people celebrated the murder of the UHC ceo, and it wasn't just because he was the UHC ceo...it's because he was a rich bastard ceo, and the populace is primed to celebrate murdering the aristos.

@MissConstrue Well, I wouldn't want to appear to advocate killing people. But I can agree that people will suffer and not see the change they were promised by the Orange Fascist.

The problems you mention are essentially universal across the western world. Marx would predict a revolution of some form, at some point.

@MW1CFN agreed. The hoarding of capital has to stop. There are more than enough resources for us to be able to house and feed everyone in the world. There is no excuse for any of the tribulations suffered by 98% of us that actually produce labor and things.
