Day ten of London Film Festival 2026 #LFF, reviewing Hanabi, It Will Happen Tonight, Too Many Beasts, Water Body https://spank-the-monkey.co.uk/2026/10/17/spanks-lff-diary-friday-16-10-2026/

Can you understand, future me?

This time of night, for some reason, I'm always more focused on music....

I often overlook the simplicity and impact of Bela Lugosi's Dead.

While my wife is out, I spent this evening showing my daughter 80s TV, early anime and music to give her an idea of where I'm coming from.

She went to bed halfway through my Celtic Frost set.

Still proud.

As the melodic noise of #Caspian fades to quiet, I'm rather excited for And So I Watch You From Afar up next. Even managed to get a #ThisAndThat rice and three in beforehand. Living the #Manchester dream!

Is anyone else always stupidly early to gigs?

Day nine of London Film Festival 2026 #LFF, reviewing Az Zeeb, La Derive, A Long Winter, Rebellion https://spank-the-monkey.co.uk/2026/10/16/spanks-lff-diary-thursday-15-10-2026/

Northern Fail's app is, unsurprisingly rubbish. Net connection required not access ticket details. No net connection at most gates.

In this case, it's repeating the old "randomly refusing to display the QR code" Error. Today, at least, the guy on the gate let me through. Some jobsworths won't, despite the screen showing date of validity and to and from stations.

What would I do if the gate wasn't manned?

Day eight of London Film Festival 2026 #LFF, reviewing Carl Sagan: We Are Made Of Star Stuff, Short Film Competition (part 2), Wicker https://spank-the-monkey.co.uk/2026/10/15/spanks-lff-diary-wednesday-14-10-2026/

First #lebkuchen of the year (thanks Aldi). Not sure if this is a good or bad thing.

If you're one of those #notrights who plays videos in public with the volume on, please understand that turning the volume down doesn't help. Barely audible is still audible and (perhaps even more) annoying. If you can hear it, we can hear it.

In a world where headphones exist, why is this a thing?
