I think they might need another sign next to this that says something like "use brake pedal to stop car".
There seems to be a bit of a weird trend around City Of Melbourne of putting up signs that explain basic driving rules.

@jessta It's very unusual to have pedestrian crossing at the exits of roundabouts in Victoria. I think the sign is justified, since the default law gives pedestrians zero rights near roundabouts.
@DavidPenington it's a 40km/h road, there are zebra crossing with the standard signs and flashing lights.
Why would you think that a motorist paying so little attention as to miss a zebra crossing would see this sign?
@DavidPenington @jessta very unusual is a stretch. Crossings on roundabouts are all over inner Melbourne and commercial zones of suburbs and rural towns. I live about 60km out of CBD and can think of at least 5 roundabouts like this within 2km of my house.
@mattdarveniza @jessta ok. Rare around my area, which is 3km from the originally pictured sign.
@DavidPenington fair, it does seem to vary wildly suburb to suburb.
@DavidPenington It just seems hard to miss.
@jessta It's the outbound sections I'd worry about.
@jessta Apparently most people only learn things to pass tests, then they forget it all. So, yeah, reminding people what the rules are is often necessary.
@StarkRG Another sign I've seen is "stop here on red signal" because apparently motorists don't know what a traffic light is.
@jessta I think it's more that they don't understand that the thick, white line you sometimes see before crosswalks is where you're supposed to stop. I've seen lots of people pass the line and stop at the crosswalk instead.
In one case someone had gone so far forward that they were no longer sitting over the car sensor so the light would never have changed if I hadn't come along and triggered it myself.
@StarkRG you mean the 'stop line' that motorists encounter at every intersection? Something they encounter hundreds of times a week and would have encountered thousands of times while learning to drive?
It's worrying to build infrastructure that assumes people licensed to pilot mobile lounge rooms at unsafe speeds don't know the very basic rules that are supposed to make this activity somewhat safe.
@jessta I think it's at least as worrying that those people are all out there driving around anyway. Accidents happen, I've occasionally had a hard stop that crossed the line, forgotten to indicate, or entered a roundabout that I probably shouldn't have, but there are people out there doing all of those things *way* more than occasionally and as a matter of course rather than accidentally.
@jessta I mean yes but with the amount of people who don’t stop I can also see their point. OTOH those kind of people also don’t read signs so maybe it’s not going to help.
